Episode 21 The Ultimate Upper Torso Workout

Episode 22 The Father – Son Workout

Most middle school athletes train foot quickness best in new extra wide black bands. My suggestion is you start in red but once they begin to get the movements down, move them up into the black bands.

Thanks Carter for working out with me and for being the best son a father could every ask for.

Episode #23

Episode 24 The Anti-situp circuit

Bottomline… Sit ups and crunches … Kill your low back. The abs have 1 role and 1 role only… Protect the lumbar spine from moving to far by functioning as a dynamic stabilizer of “excess” motion. Note I say excess, because the lumbar spine can move and needs to but not beyond its anatomical range of motion.

Situps and crunches train the abs to be movers not stabilizers. Therefore we crush the spine with every rep. Stand up and bend over at the waist and let me know if you abs contract. They won’t unless you voluntarily tighten them up. That functional movement is provide to us free of charge by the gravity gods.

Don’t need to train that doing sit ups

Also the last time I looked my abs are part of the kinetic chain. Actually they are the leader of the kinetic chain. When you lay down, you eliminate 50% of the kinetic chain and tell you abs to work solo and not as an integrated part.

But Dave what about the Upper Abs… Do this workout and let me know if you upper abs get activated.

Remember… this is not a low back workout. Low back tightness means your lower abs bailed on you and your back started taking the hit.

PS.. thought I would share this a recent email..

Dave your bands are great. Being a boot camp / personal trainer, not only do my clients love using these bands during the sessions, but I have incorporated them into my own workouts as well. I am currently following the P90X and switched from dumbbells to the Black and Purple bands. They are kicking my butt a lot more then the dumbbells were. I feel as if i am really adding a challenge to my body but find it easier to use then the weights!

See what John had to say below…  The guy lives fitness.

“Dave, I met you at Ryans Bootcamp last sept at which time I purchased a set of your bands. I have to say that my overall strength has increased tremendously. I’m 55 years young and have a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology, and have been in the training/rehab business since the late 80′s. The bands and your knowledge of how to use them is the best thing to come down the pike since I read Bob Gajda’s book in early 1990. I’m also a cheddarhead-I went to undergrad at UW-Madison, grew up there too. I’ve had a geriatric rehab business in Phoenix since 96, and the bands have given me a whole new take on things. Thanks Dave. John Blilie
